Der Name Obake bezieht sich sich auf eine Klasse des Yokai, das sind japanische übernatürliche Wesen, die sich verändern, Geister von verstorbenen Menschen.
Obake, gegründet vom Experimental-Gitarristen und Elektroniker Eraldo Bernocchi, Opern- und Experimentalsänger und Elektroniker LEF Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari und dem ungarischen Schlagzeuger Balazs Pandi haben mit dem australischen Bassisten Colin Edwin ein Bandprojekt geschaffen, das Doom und Drone Metal mit der Präzision des Math Rock, den Klangwelten der Ambient-electronica, Noise, und den Wurzeln des Hard-Rock vereint, und mit kompromissloser Härte und einem wilden, ungeheuer intensiven Klangwall das Publikum schier umbläst.
